See

Planting Method:
Sow seeds ½ inch deep and 1 inch apart. When the plants have 2 to 3 leaves, thin to 4 to 8 inches apart.

Soil:
Any good garden soil that is rich in organic matter. pH 6.0 to 8.0.

Fertilizer:
At planting time, use 2 pounds of 10-10-10 fertilizer per 100 square feet, or 1½ pounds per 50-foot row. Side-dress in 2 weeks with 1 to 2 pounds per 50-foot row.

Containers: Water thoroughly every 2 weeks with a liquid or soluble plant food.

Water:
How much: Apply enough water at each irrigation to wet the soil 8 to 10 inches deep.

Containers: 10 percent of the applied water should drain out the bottom.

How often: Water when the soil 2 inches deep is barely moist.

Harvest:
Pick individual leaves as needed. Just before seed stalks emerge, use a sharp knife to cut the entire plant just above the soil line.
